The Cover and the Sprinkler

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

…worked on the cover today - got out the paint, the sewing machine, acrylic flowers, modge podge, and brads.

Before:

Using acrylic paint…I added paint strokes to the acrylic cover - leaving it streaky so that I could see through to the title page:

Painted acrylic flower to add to the cover:

Glued the flower with mod podge and added it to the cover to make it shine:

Added a contrasting polka dot brad and a flower inside (traced from an acrylic flower onto Fancy Pants paper and highlighted the edges using a black sharpie:

Thought it was a little plain with the flower and since I love to stitch on things - added some stitching:

I may add more to the title page - quote, photo, or journaling - but, that’s it for now - nothing too fancy, but I like it!

Happy Mother’s day to all the mom’s out there - my boys want to have a big party today!

Oh, and I have to add these photos, too - some almost summertime fun - Pure joy of the outside sprinkler:

still working on the hybrid book - got this bag from Karen’s store and saved it by cutting it to the size of my book and stitching it back together - great for storage of memorabilia:

Everyday

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

…so I’m working on a project for an upcoming hybrid class and thought I would post some of it here as it goes along…it’s about everyday life and a quote from the movie Titanic comes to mind - making everyday count (something like that, anyway):

Here it is - the beginning - Everyday: 5×7 Hybrid Book

Supplies to start; acrylic sheet, chipboard/cardboard (those paper sheets that sometimes come with paper at the scrapbook store, transparencies, printer, inkpad, digital papers and brushes, scrap papers. Main font used: steelfish.

This is just a quick view of the pile of papers as it sits now - undecorated, and just the beginning.

Themes in book to start:

observe

play

I’m using scraps and ephemera - I’ve ripped a piece of paper from an old book, cut it down to size and attached it to photo in front of this one.

For each photo - there’s a transparency with a word to describe the photo and journaling on the opposite page - this is in the play section. (Note: words need to be flipped to print on inkjet transparencies).

For the computer part of it all - I’ve create a 5×7 document to save everything in and print from - quotes, paper, words.
